The Riverside FANatic

By Alan Plummer

Mother Nature held off long enough to get the entire card of racing in Saturday night at the PASS sanctioned Riverside Speedway.  Cody Hodge took home his 1st Street Stock win, Ron Watson ran an Outlaw, Jim Shorey drove Watson’s Super Stock for the evening.  Nick Gilcris came back from his rollover last week to win his feature.

The Dwarf Cars started the evening out.  Nate Brown started on the pole, with Dana Huoppi outside.  Brown took the initial lead, but Huoppi gained the top spot on lap 3.  On lap 4, Ernie Laplant moved to 2nd, then on lap 6 took the lead.  On lap 9, Eric Hall took 3rd place then he moved to 2nd on lap 11.  At the stripe it was Laplant, followed by Hall and Huoppi.

The Daredevil Rookies put on a great flag to flag show.  The track had a morning schooling, and it looks like the kids learned real fast.  Stephen Donahue started on the pole, with Nick Gilcris outside.  Gilcris took the lead.  On lap 4, Lyndsay Dawson overtook the 2nd spot.  Dawson was slowly reeling in Gilcris, through lap traffic, but the laps ran out and she had to settle for 2nd, with Gilcris taking the win, and Nick Miller coming in 3rd.

The Daredevil Veterans also put on a great show with only one caution on the 1st lap.  Keith Lord started on the pole, with Randy Whittum outside.  Lord took the lead.  Somehow I missed what lap it was, but Jesse Switser snuck up to 2nd, and Brandon Lambert moved into 3rd.  Switser took the lead on lap 5.  On lap 7, Kyle Pembroke moved to 3rd, then 2nd.  Switser took the lead, followed by Pembroke and Lambert.

The Angels took to the track next.  Jen Terrill started on the pole, with Cynthia Litvin outside.  Terrill took the lead, as Mary Eastman moved to 2nd.  Traci Nelson, Jennie Dion and Kristen Wheeler all got together bringing out the yellow.  Terrill again takes the lead.  On lap 4, Johanna Christman moves into 3rd.  On lap 5, Nelson moves into 2nd, then gets into someone, and is given the black flag and held for 1 lap.  Christman takes the restart then Eastman takes the lead.  On lap 7, Miranda Gervais overtakes 2nd then the lead.  Wheeler spins in turn 2 bringing out the caution.  Gervais takes the lead on the restart, and Christman moves to 2nd, and Shirley Ward moves to 3rd.  On lap 13, Ward overtakes 2nd.  Dion moves to the 3rd spot on lap 19.  On lap 29, Ward takes the lead, then Gervais regains.  Vanessa Brown overtakes 3rd on lap 33.  At the checkers it is Gervais followed by Dion and Brown.

Brendon Hunt was on the pole for the Street Stocks, with Tom Sokolis outside.  Sokolis took the initial lead, but Tyler Therrien quickly moved to the lead.  Alex Theroux moved to the 3rd spot.  Theroux and Sokolis get together and spin on the backstretch.  Therrien takes the resart.  On lap 3 Tori Delabruere overtakes the lead, then she and Therrien get together.  Cody Hodge takes the lead on the restart, and Theroux moves to 2nd.   Michael Smith moves to 3rd, then 2nd. On lap 8, Shawn Swallow moves into 3rd.  Hodge takes his first win in the Street Stocks followed by Smith and Swallow.

Allyn Briggs started on the pole for the Super Stock feature, with Jason Kenison outside.  Kenison took the lead, as Jeff Fysh moved into 2nd.  Jamie Longley moves into 3rd.  Denny Degreenia is black flagged, for smoke coming from under the car, but stays out, bringing out a caution.  Kenison retakes the lead as Longley moves into 2nd.  On lap 9, Brian Gosselin moves into the 3rd spot.  On lap 15 Luke Shannon overtakes 3rd.  On lap 15, Kenison takes a rather abrupt and rough ride off turn 2, blocking pit road entrance.  The rotor broke on Kenison’s car, and although they were able to change it, he came back out several laps down.  Shannon takes the restart and Nathan Swallow moves to 2nd.  For much of the last 10 laps Shannon and Swallow battled back and forth, but Swallow just couldn’t make the pass.  Shannon takes the win followed by Swallow and Longley.

The Outlaws were the final feature of the night, with Reggie Theroux starting on the pole with Steve Patnaude outside.  Theroux took the lead.  Doug Laleme overtook the lead on lap 5.  On lap 6, Dan Sidney moved into the 3rd position.  Laleme took the win followed by Theroux and Patnaude.
