The Riverside FANatic

By Alan Plummer

Saturday was another beautiful day at Riverside Speedway, a PASS sanctioned track.  Ernie Laplant returned after last week’s flip down the front stretch.  A collection was taken to help out Jeff Marshall, who is sidelined from racing, after last week’s wreck that left him with a few cracked ribs and a cracked vertebrate.  Also as a show of support, many of his friends had the 32 on their cars.  The track also set a record for number of attendance, with over 2300 people attending last week’s race.

The Angels started off the evening, with Cynthia Litvin on the pole, with Mary Eastman outside.  Eastman took the lead.  Miranda Gervais moved to the 3rd spot on lap 2, and overtook 2nd on lap 6.  She took the lead on lap 6.  On lap 9, Dayna Randall moved into 3rd, and took 2nd on lap 11.  She took the lead on lap 13.  Gervais blows a tire and flies off turn 3.  Randall takes the restart, as Johanna Christman moves to 2nd, and Traci Nelson takes 3rd.  The red flag flies as chaos erupts on the backstretch, Heather Hodge, Litvin, Jen Terrill, Lindsey Rexford and Gervais are all involved.  Randall again takes the restart, and Nelson moves to 2nd.   Christman regains 2nd on lap 28, just as Mary Eastman gets into Jennie Dion sending Dion into the front stretch wall.  The restart is single file.  Randall takes the win followed by Christman and Nelson.  Following post race inspection, Randall was disqualified for too much camber, giving the win to Christman, with 2nd to Nelson, and 3rd to Heather Hodge.

Ciara McCoy started on the pole for the Dwarfs, with David Hartshorn outside.  McCoy took the lead.  Dana Huoppi moved to 3rd on lap 3, 2nd on lap 4, and took the lead on lap 5.  Eric Hall was right on his tail moving up to 2nd.  On lap 10 Bobby Riley moved to the 3rd spot.  Riley overtook 2nd on lap17.  The yellow flies with only 5 laps to go for debris in the back stretch.  Hall takes the lead, and Huoppi regains 2nd.  At the checkers, it is Hall followed by Huoppi and Riley.

Brendan Hunt started up front for the Street Stocks, with Tom Sokolis outside.  Hunt takes the lead, as a bunch of cars tangle on the back stretch.  Andrew Fecteau misses a shift on the restart.  Sokolis takes the lead briefly on the restart as Hunt regains.  Michael Smith moves to 2nd, and Mike McGee moves to 3rd.  Smith takes the lead on lap 5.  Cody Hodge moves to 3rd on lap 7.  Hodge and McGee swap back and forth for several laps, with Hodge getting into the corners better, but McGee came off the corner better.   On lap 24, Hodge and McGee get together, going off turn 3.  Smith takes the lead as Tori Delabruere moves to 2nd.  Smith takes the checkers, followed by Delabruere and Hunt.

The Super Stocks rolled out next, with Allyn Briggs on the pole, and Jeff Fysh outside.  Briggs took the lead.  On lap 7 Fysh moved to the lead.  On lap 10, a bunch of cars got together.  It looked as if they would all recover, but Brian Gosselin and Luke Shannon didn’t, with Shannon hitting the tire wall in turn 4.  Fysh took the restart, and Nathan Swallow moved to 2nd.  On lap 15 Swallow took the lead, and the win, followed by Fysh and Denny Degreenia.

Steve Hodgdon started on the pole for the Late Models, with Pete Gilcris outside.  Gilcris took the lead.  Floyd Bennett took 3rd on lap 19.  Gene Leblanc spins on lap 20.  Gilcris is forced to pit just before the restart as he lost a belt.  Bennett takes the lead, and Bryan Mason moves to 3rd.  The yellow flies as Corey Mason, Reno Gervais, and Gene Leblanc tangle on the front stretch.  Bryan Mason takes the lead and Grant Folsom moves to 3rd.  Mike Kenison moves to 3rd on lap 32.  Hodgdon spins on lap 34.  Mason again takes the lead, and Kenison moves to 2nd, and Gervais 3rd.  Bryan Mason takes the win followed by Kenison and Gervais.

The Cyclones closed out the evening.  Anthony Mason started on the pole, with Chris Caron outside.  By lap 10, Luke Shannon had taken the lead, with Caron holding on to 2nd.  It was still Shannon and Caron on lap 20.  Charlie Rockwell moved up to 2nd by lap 30.  On lap 47, Ralph Jessman got into Rockwell, sending Rockwell into the backstretch wall.  Shannon took the win, followed by Loren Vear, Rick Utley, Shaun Stetson, and Jeff Ainsworth.
