Saturday July 14th was a great day of racing at Riverside Speedway, a PASS sanctioned track. All divisions put on great shows. The Late Models had the most cautions of the night with some pretty torn up cars.
The Daredevil Rookies started out the night with the 47 of Randy Hunt started on the pole with the 93 of Cameron Bowen to his outside. Bowen took the lead as the 2 of Curtis Randall moved into 2nd, and the 29 of Brendan Hunt moved into 3rd. Dickie Stanley in the 27 raced into 3rd place on lap7, and overtook 2nd on lap 8, and then took the lead. On lap 11 the 62 of Dilyn Switser moved into the 3rd spot, then on lap 14 he overtook 2nd. Dickie Stanley picks up a big win, with his main sponsor Central Paving, which also happens to be his father’s company, being one of the sponsors of the night’s festivities. Switser picks up 2nd, and Bowen takes 3rd.
The Daredevil Veterans didn’t start their night off as well as the rookies. A few cars got together before getting to turn 2. Riley Hartshorn in the 73 took the lead on the restart over the 3 of Kristopher Russell. The 72 of Cody Hodge moved into the 2nd spot. The 5 of Jesse Switser moves into the third spot on lap 2. Hartshorn was really loose, and Hodge capitalized on it making the pass. On lap 4 Switser moves into 2nd, and the 77 of Brandon Lambert overtakes 3rd. Hodge was the win followed by Switser and Lambert.
Holly Brown in the 41 started on the pole for the Street Stocks. Outside her door was the 07 of Bill Stebbins Jr. On the start Brown has some mechanical problems causing the caution to come out. The 29 of Chris Meunier starts outside of Stebbins on the restart. They are even for two laps, with Meunier gaining the lead. The 04 of Shawn Swallow quickly moved to 3rd, then 2nd. The 27 of Troy Randall moved into 3rd on lap 5, and then lunged to the lead on lap 7 as Meunier gets shuffled back. On lap 10, the 12 of Tyler Therrien takes the 3rd spot. On lap 11, with what looked like a miss of an accident, the 36 of Chris Hodgdon sliding across the infield suddenly caught and rolled the car on the roof. Hodgdon was alert and moving around after the accident. Randall took the restart, and the win followed by Swallow and Therrien.
The Super Stocks had a great night, with only one caution. Jason Kenison had a respectable 9th place finish in his first time out in an 8 cyl. car. The 38 of Robin Hood started on the pole with the 7 of Cody Leblanc outside. Hood took the lead as the 8 of Denny Degreenia moved into 2nd, then took the lead. The 73 of David Ofsuryk overtook 2nd on lap 2. On lap 8, Jeff Fysh in the 33 moved into 3rd. The yellow flew on lap 13 as the 02 of Tim Clark and Leblanc got together. Degreenia took the restart, and Fysh moved into 2nd. Luke Shannon, in the 13, moved into the 3rd spot on lap 19, but lost it to the 70 of Michael Hughes on lap 23. Hughes then moved to 2nd on lap 25. Shannon regained the 3rd spot on lap 26. The top 4 cars were under a blanket as the crossed the finish line, with Degreenia taking 1st, Shannon 2nd, and Fysh 3rd.
The new Outlaw Sportsman put on a quick show. The 7 of Matt Leblanc started on the pole with the 17 of Steve Patnaude outside. Patnaude took the lead as the 68 of Jonathan Ledger moved into 2nd and the 31 of Derek Ming moved into 3rd. On lap 2 Ledger takes the lead and Ming moves into 2nd. On lap 4 Ming took the top spot and the 93 of Reggie Theroux moved into 3rd. Jeff Marshall in the 32 and Doug Laleme in the 74 get together on lap 23, bringing out the caution. A seemingly unstoppable Ming took the restart and the win, followed by Ledger and Theroux.
The Late Models had a rough night, and tore up some equipment. The 42 of Brian Greer started on the pole with the 12 of Mike Paquette outside. They are nearly even for the first two laps, with Paquette taking the lead. On lap 3, the 15 of Bob Ailes moves into 3rd, then 2nd. On lap 4, the 37 of Steve Mandigo moved into 3rd. Bryan Mason, in the 10, overtakes 3rd on lap 8, then on lap 12 takes 2nd. Floyd Bennett Jr. looses a radiator on lap 14, putting fluid down everywhere. Mason takes the next 5 restarts. On lap 23, amazingly Bennett is back in the 3rd spot after changing the radiator during the first caution. The 98 of Owen Wimble spins on lap 34 bringing out the caution. Mason takes the restart, as a pile up in turn one ensues leaving some torn up cars. Mason takes the restart, as his brother Corey moves into the 3rd spot. The yellow flies again on lap 37. It is determined that a single file restart would be best, not to have more wrecks. Greer running 2nd is forced to pit because he was leaking water. Brian Mason takes the yellow/checkers with Brother Corey in 2nd, and the 84 of Tim Churchill coming home 3rd.
The Cyclones put on a great 100 lap event. The 41 of Jeff Ainsworth cruised to victory, followed by the 9 of Ben Bedor, the 3 of Andy Simpson, the 16x of Dean Switser, and rounding out the top 5 was the 48 of Scott Marshall.
