It was a double header weekend at the PASS sanctioned Riverside Speedway. Friday night saw the PASS Outlaw Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Riverside Street Stocks and Super Stocks. Saturday had the Riverside Daredevils, Angels, Outlaws, Dwarfs, and Cyclones in action.
The Street Stocks started Friday night, with the 07 of Bill Stebbins Jr. on the pole, and the 04 of Shawn Swallow outside. Swallow took the lead, as the 95 of Alex Theroux moved to 3rd. On lap 5 Theroux moved to 2nd, and the 27 of Troy Randall overtook 3rd. The yellow flies on lap 8, as the 14 of Nick Pilotte, and Stebbins get together. Swallow takes the restart, as Randall overtakes 2nd. On lap 17, the 76 of Tori Delabruere gets into Theroux, and Theroux nearly spins, as Delabruere takes 3rd. Randall goes outside Swallow on lap 19, but brushes the backs stretch wall on lap 20. Swallow takes the checkers first, followed by Randall and Delabruere.
The Super Stocks were up next. The 7 of Cody Leblanc started on the pole, with the 55 of Jamie Longley outside. Longley takes the lead. The 76 of Shawn Hood gains the lead on lap 2, as the 1 of Jeremy Lacoss moves to 3rd. The following lap Lacoss overtakes 2nd. David Ofsuryk moves to 3rd on lap5. Lacoss takes the lead on lap 8. Ofsuryk overtakes 2nd on lap 11. The yellow comes out on lap 14 for the 38 of Robin Hood spinning in turn 2. Lacoss takes the restart, as the 8 of Denny Degreenia moves to 3rd. Ofsuryk and Lacoss battle for the last few laps, with Lacoss taking the victory followed by Ofsuryk and Degreenia.
The PASS Outlaws were up next. The 36 of Jay Sands started on the pole, with the 25 of Mike Thomas outside. Sands took the lead. On lap 25, the 97 of Walt Hammond overtakes 3rd. On lap 27 the yellow flag flies for a pileup in turn 3, with at least 4 cars involved. Sands takes the restart, as the 09 of Jeremy Davis regains 3rd. Hammond spins in turn 3 on lap 36. Sands takes the restart. The 04, Jamie Swallow Jr. of Stark, battles for 3rd, but can’t make it stick. On lap 44 Hammond has made in through the pack, back to 3rd place. He overtakes 2nd on lap 47, and takes the lead on lap 69. Lap traffic comes into play on lap 73, as Sands regains the top spot. The yellow flies on lap 84. Sands takes the restart. Hammond comes back and retakes the lead on lap 91. On lap 92, Thomas overtakes 2nd. At the line it is Hammond followed by Thomas, and Sands. Rounding out the top 5 were Davis, and the 14 of Katie Hagar.
The final division for the night was the PASS Modifieds. The 29 of Greg Ellis started on the pole. To his outside was the 33 of Bill Dixon. Ellis takes the lead, as the 1 of Chris Smith moves to 2nd. The 12, of Steve Bennett Jr., moves to 3rd on lap 1. On lap 10, the 9 of Mark Lucas moves to the 3rd spot. Lucas holds the spot for 5 laps and goes flying off turn 1, giving 3rd to the 5 of Chris Staples. Smith takes the lead on the restart, as Staples moves to 2nd. On lap 17, the 8 of Jason Taylor moves into 3rd. Staples takes the lead on lap 18, bringing Taylor with him for 2nd. The 85 of Kenny Harrison spins on lap 21. Staples takes the next 3 restarts, and the win. He is followed across the line by Taylor and Smith. Rounding out the top 5 is Bennett, and the 6 of Troy Morse.
Saturday started off with Kiddie race car rides. The kids looked like they were really having fun as they got a ride from their favorite drivers. Wildman Al Sleep put on part of his stunt show, but after a wind shift during the domino car jump sent him off course landing hard upside down he was unable to do the final stunt.
The Angels started off the racing on Saturday. The 00 of Ciara McCoy started on the pole, with the 13 of Mary Eastman outside. McCoy takes the lead, as the 44 of Jennie Dion moved to 2nd, and the 5 of Traci Nelson moved to 3rd. The 36 of Allison Brown overtakes 3rd on lap 2, and overtakes 2nd on lap 3. On lap 6, Dion gets into the 6 of Miranda Gervais, and Dion rolls the car over turn 1. Brown takes the restart. The 04x of Michelle Tierney just shuts down on lap 10 in the middle of the back stretch. Brown again takes the restart, as Gervais moves to 2nd. Dayna Randall, in the 27, spins on lap 11. With a single file restart, Brown checks outs and gains a big lead. She crosses the finish line with nearly a ¼ track lead, followed by Gervais and the 7 of Kate Demar.
The Outlaws had two features for the night. In the first feature, the 71 of Pete Gilcris started on the pole, but he pushed up and caused a pile up and was sent to the rear. The 17 of Steve Patnaude inherited the pole, with the 7 of Matt Leblanc outside. Patnaude took the lead, as the 1 of Ken Marier moved to 2nd, and the 93 of Reggie Theroux moved to 3rd. The yellow flies on lap 2 for debris. The restart is nearly even, with Marier gaining the lead. The yellow comes out on lap 4 for the 68 of Johnny Ledger in turn 3. Marier takes the restart. Theroux moved to 2nd on lap 5. Ledger gains 3rd on lap 10, 2nd on lap 16, and the lead on lap 23. Ledger takes the win, followed by Marier and Theroux.
The Daredevil rookie division was up next. The 2 of Curtis Randall started on the pole, with the 47 of Randy Whittum outside. Randall took the lead. On lap 2, the 07 of Manville Powers moved to 2nd, the the 75 of Andrew Fecteau moved to 3rd. Powers took the lead on lap 3 bringing Fecteau with him for 2nd. Powers took the win followed by Fecteau and Randall. Eric Charboneau in his first time out took 4th, followed by Randy Whittum, Keith Lord, and Jerrad Ainsworth.
The Daredevil veterans were up next. The 3 of Kristopher Russell started on the pole, with the 44 of Kyle Pembroke outside. Russell takes the initial lead, by Pembroke overtakes on lap2. The 12 of Brett Gervais overtakes 3rd on lap 2. On lap 4 the 72 of Cody Hodge overtakes 3rd, then 2nd on lap 6. On lap 15, the 5 of Jesse Switser moves to the 3rd spot. Hodge takes the lead on lap 18, bringing Switser with him for 2nd. Hodge takes the win followed by Switser, and Pembroke. Rounding out the field were Russell, Dilyn Ainsworth, Gervais, Brandon Lambert, Riley Hartshorn and Tyler Leighton.
The Dwarfs were up next. The 19 of Alyn Briggs started on the pole, with the 20 of Bobby Riley outside. Briggs takes the lead, but spins in the backstretch. The 4 of Nathan Brown takes the restart. The 2 of Eric Hall rockets to the lead on lap 2. On lap 17 the 2nd and 3rd place cars of Brown and the 28 of Ernie Laplant get together and spin in turn 1 . Hall takes the restart as the 92 of David Hartshorn moves to 2nd and the 22 of Dana Huoppi takes 3rd. Huoppi takes 2nd on lap 18, and on lap 19 Brown overtakes 3rd. Hall takes the win followed by Huoppi and Brown.
Outlaw feature #2 was up next. Patnaude started on the pole, with the 74 of Doug Laleme outside. Laleme takes the lead, as the 71x of Robb Rugg loses the rear end. Laleme take the restart. Ledger moves to 2nd on lap 4. The yellow flies on lap 11. Laleme and Ledger are nearly even on the restart with Laleme squeaking out the lead. Marier has a rear tire go down bringing out the yellow. Laleme takes the restart, but Ledger overtakes him on lap 17. Ledger takes the win, followed by Laleme and Theroux.
The Cyclones closed the night. They put on a great show, with the 27 of Aric Cole coming out on top, followed by the 48 of Scott Marshall, the 20 of Charlie Rockwell, the 33 of Josh Lafleur, and rounding out the top 5, the 04 of Shaun Stetson. The 04x of Shawn Swallow was apparently in the lead with 2 laps to go when he lost a tire and came to rest teetering on the edge of turn 2, ending his night.
Come see the races next Saturday, with a kids pit tour starting at 5p.m. On the card will be the Late Models, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Daredevils and Cyclones.
