The P.A.S.S. sanctioned Riverside Speedway paid tribute to Groveton Fire, Ambulance, and Police this past Friday.  Their dedication to the track and the community was honored by each of them receiving a plaque in recognition of their services.  A great crowd was on hand as Riverside only charged $5 a head.  It was a great night of racing with few cautions.

The Daredevil Novice division started off the night.  The 3 of Kristopher Russell on the pole, with the 2 of Curtis Randall outside.  Russell takes the lead.  The 7 of Dayna Randall overtakes 2nd, with the 00 of Ciara McCoy moving into 3rd.  On the next lap, Randall takes 1st.  On lap 7 McCoy and Randall get together.  McCoy is sent to the penalty box, but apparently her father told her just to load the car.  The restart is single file, with Russell in the lead, with the 8 of Tyler Leighton in 2nd and the 73 of Riley Hartshorn in 3rd.  On lap 8, Leighton took the lead and Dickie Stanley in the 27 moves into 3rd.  On lap 13 Stanley moves to 2nd, and Randall moves into 3rd.  At the stripe it is Kris Russell picking up his first win, followed by Stanley, and Dayna Randall.

In the Daredevil Masters division, the 5 of Jesse Switser started on the pole, with the 77 of Brandon Lambert outside.  Switser takes the lead, and the 72 of Cody Hodge moves into 3rd.  By lap 4 Shawn Swallow in the 04 moves into 3rd, and on lap 10 takes 2nd.  Switser and Swallow race side by side, with Lambert and 01 of Sammie Gooden racing door to door behind them.  As things start to settle out, Gooden completes the pass for 3rd on lap 16, and sneaks into 1st on lap 17, as Swallow drops to third.  Gooden takes the win followed by Switser and Swallow.

Next up were the Street Stocks.  The 02 of Arnie Krupula started on the pole with the 1 of Mike Mcgee outside.  Mcgee took the lead, as the 28 of Dustin Jackson moved into 2nd.  On lap 2 Jackson took the lead, and the 19 of Jake McDowell moved into 3rd, then one lap later, overtakes 2nd.  The 6x of Jerrad Ledger overtook 3rd on lap 7.  By lap 15 McDowell had caught Jackson in lap traffic, and snuck under him to take the lead.  By lap 20 the 76 of Ryan Delabruere was on Ledger bumper, and made the pass for 3rd on lap 22.  McDowell takes the checkers followed by Jackson and Delabruere.

The Angels took to the field next, with Shirley Ward jumping back into a car after a few years.  The 55 of Traci Nelson started on the pole, with the 36 of Allison Brown outside.  Brown took the lead, as the 7 of Kate Demar moved into 3rd, then 2nd.  On lap 3 the 44 of Jennie Dion moved into the 3rd spot, and the 11 of Miranda Gervais takes a trip of turn 2 sliding through the grass.  Demar takes the restart and Dion moved into 2nd.  By lap 14, Ward in the 27 had moved into 3rd and on lap 18 overtook 2nd.  On lap 19 Dion has some tire problems, and Brown regains 3rd.  The top three were: Demar, Ward and Brown.

It was another crazy night in the Super Stock division.  The 6 of Robin Hood started on the pole, with the 10 of Adam Hurd outside.  Hood takes the lead, and the 31 of Brian Middleton car dies out.  It was rumored that someone on his crew had mistakenly put water into Middleton’s tank, and they hadn’t fully resolved the issue come race time.  Hood took the restart, only to have another yellow come out for dirt in turn 4.  Hurd takes the restart, and on lap 4 the 13 of Luke Shannon blows a motor, and the 73 of David Osfuryk takes a ride off turn 1.  The 48 of Willie Holbrook takes the restart, and the 04 of Nathan Swallow moved into 2nd.  On lap 7, Jeff Marshall in the 32 overtook 3rd, then 2nd.  On lap 12 Swallow is force to pit, with a wheel bearing on fire, and the 74 of Dan Sidney inherits 3rd.  On lap 16 Marshall blows a tire giving Sidney 2nd and the 76 of Shawn Hood 3rd.  The 1 of Jeremy Lacoss, and the 18 of Ron Watson get together on lap 18, and Sidney’s car shuts down.  Holbrook takes the restart, and the win, with Hurd coming in 2nd and Osfuryk 3rd.  After going through tech, Ofsuryk was disqualified for being too light, and Shawn Hood was awarded 3rd.

In the Cyclone enduro, Tyler Therrien took the win, after leading most of the race.  Paul Hodge in the 72 came in 2nd, and Andy Simpson in the 3 took 3rd, rounding out the top 5 were Jeff Ainsworth and Josh Lafleur.

Next Saturday, the Late Models, Super Stocks, and Street Stocks all wrap up their 2006 points battle.  Also on the card will be the Daredevil Youth Racers and a pair of added Cyclone attractions. There will be a 50 lap non-winner event for the Cyclones, plus a 25 lap Winners only dash.  There will also be a Kid’s Pit Tour starting at 5pm, post time 6pm.  Pictures and archived FANatic articles can be seen at http://racing.apcomptech.com   If you have any questions or comments email me at riversidefanatic@apcomptech.com
