Friday Sept. 15 turned out to be a beautiful day for the races at Riverside Speedway, a P.A.S.S. sanctioned speedway. The Bear Ridge Coupes were on hand for their 2nd showing at the track this year. You could tell they were out for all the points they could get, and put on a great show.
The Daredevil Novice class started off the night. The 8 of Tyler Leighton started on the pole, with the 11 of Brett Gervais outside. Gervais got the jump, and the 7 of Dayna Randall moved into the 2nd spot. On lap 3 the 00 of Ciara McCoy overtook 3rd. In what seemed to be a quick race with no cautions, Randall took the checkers followed by Gervais and McCoy.
In the Daredevil Masters class the 77 of Brandon Lambert started on the pole, with the 93 of Alex Theroux outside. Lambert took the lead, and spent the night ahead of everyone. On lap 5 the 04 of Shawn Swallow went under the 22 of Tori Delabruere for the 3rd spot, and on lap 8 moved to the outside groove and overtook 2nd. On lap 12 Theroux, and the 72 of Cody Hodge got together, and were both sent to the rear. Lambert again took the restart. On lap 14 Sami Gooden in the 01 moved into the 2nd spot, only to loose it to Swallow on lap 19. Lambert held on for the win, with Swallow 2nd and Gooden 3rd.
The Angels were next to take the green. The 55 of Traci Nelson was on the pole, with the 41 of Holly Brown outside. Nelson took the lead, and the 22 of Melinda Gervais moved into 3rd. On the 2nd lap the 36 of Allison Brown took the lead. On lap 4 Gervais moved into 2nd and the 7 of Kate Demar moved into 3rd. On lap 8 Gervais moved into the lead. On lap 15 Allison Brown drifted high up the track allowing Demar to sneak under to overtake the 2nd spot. It was Gervais at the stripe followed by Demar and Allison Brown.
I missed the dwarf car feature as I was hunting down a replacement battery for the scanner. Tim Sherman picked up the win, followed by Eric Hall and Ernie Laplant.
The Coupes were next to take to the field. You could tell that they were hungry for points, because it was pretty much no holds barred, with many yellows throughout the night. The 5 of Kevin Menard started on the pole with the 28 of Earl Maxham Jr outside. Menard took the lead as Maxham went high and ended up in the turn 3 dirt. Menard again took the lead and the 1 of Adam Osgood moved into 3rd. On lap 4 the 15 of Mike Gendron spun coming out of turn 2, and the 21 of Steve Ellsworth, with nowhere else to go plows into him. Both cars needed to be taken away on the hook. Menard again took the lead on the restart. On lap 8 the 73 of Kevin Chaffee moved into 3rd. On lap 10 the 12 of Doug Titus makes the pass for the lead, and the 6 of CV Elms moves into 3rd. On lap 19 Elms moves into the 2nd spot only to loose it in the final laps to the 01 of Ryan Avery. Titus takes the win followed by Avery and Elms.
In another action packed Cyclone Enduro, the 41 of Jeff Ainsworth picked up the win. Nick Pilotte in the 99x was 2nd, with Joe Monahan in the 68 taking 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 were the 04 of Shaun Stetson and the 10 of Dana Cota.
Next weekend is final points night for the Cyclones, Angels and Dwarf Cars. The Daredevils will also be on hand as well as a $100 to win Spectator Drag and a $100 to win Backwards Spectator Race. The green flag drops at 3pm. There will be a Kid’s Pit Tour at 2pm.
